Acting with a Buzz…is it a good idea, or bad?
Have you ever thought about, or experimented with acting while buzzed? In his many of years of coaching actors, Coach Banks has often been asked, “Is it okay to act under the influence?” You may have heard actors say they had positive moments while acting after a few drinks or smoking a little weed. They say, “Wow! I’m just feeling the zone! I’m so in this and it feels so authentic!” In response Coach Banks says, “While all of that may very well be true, here is the situation. In real acting, REAL business, you have to be able to keep consistency and the ability to duplicate.” You could be on set for a 14 hour day, and you have to be ON the whole time. “If you are buzzed, you won’t be able to keep consistency and your energy levels will be all over! It’s just not advised.” Here is the real secret: “Learn how to get the buzz naturally, because you are able to access the zone of the scene, be in the truth of the character, and you are able to work your craft consistently. Take in, take out, all day long.” That, is a real buzz.
